i am using macbook, 2.0 superdrive. good - fast, user-friendly, beautiful interface, virus-free, compact size, has a fun photobooth programme to take self-portraits and pics...with funky effects...remote control to manage certain programmes, like itunes, videos...uh, can't think of any bad...ha ha ha

i'm using a 2.0 macbook too! just got it from the IT show. it's good - fast, easy to use, no need antivirus, cool design, easy installation and removal of softwares, unlike pc where there's a possibility of removing critical shared files - this won't happen on a mac. cool video cam to take pics, and good photo editing software as compared to pc. bad - i'm quite frustrated when using ms office as it is quite slow.

DH just bought me an iMac. V cool to look at, funky wireless everything.

Blew up after only 5 weeks !!! Dead motherboard (although they're called something slightly diff in Mac-speak). Would have been a $2,000 bill but still in warranty.

So far, I mostly like it. Internet connections much slower than PC. Internet connections to Windows based sites like Hotmail REALLY SLOW. Some really irrelevant pre-loaded software that just gets in the way of my life, but I suppose might be interesting to other people, like GarageBand & iMovie. And what is the point of iPhoto - it's just far to limited to be of any use.

Most of my frustrations are more to do with slight changes to key strokes and new software that I don't know how to use yet, like Pages. And although I have a full licence for MS Office (admittedly ancient version), I can't use it on my Mac so am stuck using more Mickey Mouse software like iWork.

My DH bought it because I needed a new computer and everyone always raves about the Mac being THE thing for photo editing & production, which is my thing. So far, I'm not truly seeing any diff in it's abilities over the PC yet.

I really LOVE though, it's ability to wake up instantly and not having this dreadful lag starting up. It's definitely more stable than the PC and the only crashes I've had have been to do with specific software (Adobe Bridge, comes within PSE 4). As my previous PC had become very unstable and on it's off days it would take 25 mins to log in, the iMac is like a breath of fresh air.

Just curious, anyone here uses a mac? Be it a desktop or a ibook/powerbook or the new macbook?

And if you have the time, do also share 5 good and 5 bad about a mac. (in your opinion)

me me me! I use mac book for almost about a year.

Goods
1) fast
2) userfriendly
3) can create movie
4) can take photo as its has a booth
5) cool widgets
6) no virus
7) link with my ipod

Bads
1) expensive
2) easily has scratches :doh:
3) must use mac compatiable product / software
4) limited software to use

I'm a diehard mac user - have been using the mac for almost 20 years now. Started with the mac classic, went through the mac PowerPc, had the mac cube (gorgeous little thing!) and am now using the mac mini which I got about a year ago.

Yes, I've used PCs too (mostly at previous workplaces and my husband currently uses a laptop) but have always preferred the mac as I did quite a bit of layout work e.g. newsletter layouts, graphic work, and also music stuff.

5 good things:
1. Very user friendly
2. Intuitive little machine!
3. Looks real stylish
4. less prone to virus attacks
5. cool widgets (agree with coco)

5 not so good things (can't bring myself to use 'bad')
1. expensive hardware
2. expensive software
3. limited hardware choices e.g. limited usage with quickutz silhouette diecut machine!
4. limited software choices - can't always play the games that the rest of the majority pc world is playing!
5. can be a bit isolating - see pts 4 & 5

I am a PC user.
Using MacBook Pro and Mac Book in office.

Each has its pros and cons.

For me, one thing for sure, photo editing and video editing on the MAC tend to lose out to the PC. Not robust and lacks user friendly functionality.

Hint Hint : Safari browser doesnt accept SINGPASS login... LOL!

there are actually alot of cool n useful softwares out there that's made for mac.

as for why office is running slower in the new macbook core duo, cos they have yet come up with the version tats up to speed with the new mac system. same thing for photoshop. so we'll just have to wait for the people to get them ready for sale.

am using one on loan for now, will get my own by wed. can't wait!

hahhhaa talking abt mac vs pc is just like talking abt canon vs nikon.

all have their own camps.... all with their own plus and minus points.

macs are cool.. pcs are cool too.

Have had the Mac Desk top for 6 months now and aside from surfing, hardly use it for anything else. Really MUST wake myself up and start using it more to get used to it *but too lazy or too busy*. Our 14 year old needed her own pc for school work, and we decided on the MAC, so she uses it the most now.

LOVE ~
1)the speed
2)the personalised environments, the widgets and bookmarks are not shared.
3)that I can PDF documents instantly

BAD ~
Needing to LEARN how to use it as it is totally different from the pc

Have 2 mac computers n 1 pc at home.

Been using Mac for almost 10 years now. Now using EMac (been using it since 4 yrs ago)...and my husband has a powerbook (the laptop has travelled to 7 conutries with him so far!). I use mine to design brochures and newsletters for my husband's company.

Advantages:
1) Fast
2) Stable - not crash before
3) Easy to use
4) Less prone to virus (had not encounter any yet, so far, actually)
5) Love the space saving designs and cool gadgets

Disadvantages:
1) Costly software and hardware
2) Sometimes cannot see pictures that are attached on emails, esp when the sender uses a PC.
3) Sometimes cannot access the website: eg I had problem registering online warranty for my Canon poducts. When I register thru my PC - it worked. Still puzzled.
4) Cannot share file freely with PC users
5) Pretty exclusive (only 2% of computer users are MAC users? stand to be corrected).

Whatever the choice - fucus on your needs. For designing purposes - MAC is still the better choice.

Don't need to be a tertiary student. As long as you're student (even Primary school) you can be entitled to the (almost) free iPod. So get your neices/nephews/neighbours to help. I'm also tempted to upgrade my old iBook to MacBook.
