View Full Version : How do you store your scraps?

I am a compulsive hoarder and every little piece of scrap I keep. They are awfully useful in cards and smaller LOs. But of late I have been inundated by the sheer volume of it all. I am looking for ways to maximise my display and storage of scraps so I can use them more effectively.

How do you store yours?

I am using a 12x12 accordian file of sorts but it is beginning to burst at its seams. They are sorted by color and 12x12 plastic bags to sort into pp vs cs. The pieces less than 6x6 are further sorted into little plastic bags.

I know people who trim down to size but I tend to try to preserve as much of the piece as possible (especially those with patterns - I cut those out as embellishments etc) but it means unavoidable folding at times.

Anyone with better ideas?

Avina you are way, way ahead compared to me *LOL* ..... mine are mostly in a carton box ......... but the CSs are better organised, they are in a polypropelyn bag. Anything else I really have no use for (read : really, really outdated stuff) go into my girls' scrap box for their art projects.

I know I'm not much help ........... :tsk:

Keep saying to my hubby I need more cupboards ..... he says *NO*, I need to clear out some stuff !

I wanted to ask this question too! I need a way to organise it such that I dont miss out a certain design that is great to match with... And also a way to store such that it doesnt crumple/tear easily....

HOW?!

I know what you mean! I am a terrible pack rat but I have to admit that I find the scraps so useful many a time. CS are easier coz less variations.

I was thinking of getting a drop file but that means it isn't portable like my accordian file. Drop files don't crumple as much I think.

i sort by colours for the cardstocks... based on the rainbow colours, plus some "funny" ones that don't fit in anywhere... usually keep pieces that are at least 4x4 inches... except for white / soft white / cream which are useful for journalling - i keep all sizes (even 0.5 inches!)

as for PP, i store by patterns... dots, floral, lines, words... usually keep pieces that are at least 4x4 inches...

depending on your scrapping style... if you are the free-style, go-with-the-flow-type, you can consider throwing everything into a box, and rummaging thru it when you're scrapping and use whatever you pick out (i thought that was a brilliant move to use up the scraps!)... a friend of mine does that... I'm totally amazed by her ability to 'just whack!" and still come up with solid layouts!
