The DT had fun last week with yummy all-new supplies. :) Here’s what they did:

:: Soo Jen ::

Soo Jen’s Comments
I applied Ranger’s Crackle Paint by Tim Holtz (Old Paper and Antique Linen) on the cardstock and over the hand-torn strips of pp. After the paint dried, i used the cut and dry foam to apply Ranger’s Distress Inks (Tattered Rose, Scattered Straw) over the cracks. Then i topped up the effect with Crystal Ice stickles (also by Ranger) over the cracks. I did the same with the buttons.

Supplies Used
Imaginisce’s “Loves Me - Love is in the Air”. Title was a mix of Rusty Pickle Alphabet stickers and EK Success journal rub-ons. Other supplies included Bazill textured cardstock, Collage Press Journalling Tape (Ledger), prima flowers, Autumn Leaves buttons, Hambly overlays, EK Success Journal Quote Rub-Ons, Creative Imaginations and rick rack (red). Supplies available at MWL.

:: Leena ::

Leena’s Comments
This page is about what I’m trying to do, which is to photograph my everyday life so that in the years to come, those pics will tell me all the stories behind every one of them. I sand the edge of the patterned paper and distress it to give it a worn out look. And I layered this page with cardstock and Hambly’s overlays and finished off the page with embellishments.

Supplies Used
Patterned Paper - Fifth Avenue from Autumn Leaves, Making Memories and Scenic Route, Overlay - Hambly Screen Prints, Rub-on - Luxe Design, Chipboard Letters - Scenic Route and AC Thickers, Letter Stickers - Making Memories, Buttons - Autumn Leaves, Tag - 7Gypsies, Clip - Making Memories, Chipboard Shape - Love Elsie (All available at MWL)

::BACK TO SCHOOL CROP PARTY - 19 JAN ‘08::

Monday, January 21st, 2008

It was a zany, wacky affair at our most recent crop party! With a theme like ‘Back To School’, there was no time to be shy as we had to dress up and play the part. Some of us dug up our old and yellowed school uniforms whilst others came in sports attire, masquerading as P.E. teachers. Whatever  it was, everyone was game and did their best to be ‘in character’.

A couple of ‘kindergarten school kids’ here complete with pony tails.Laughing Out Loud

To my surprise, being ‘Principal Mrs Elvira Liow’ came quite naturally to me. Armed with my trusty cane, i gathered all crop attendees for opening assembly to signal the start of the crop party.  I gave a no-nonsense rundown of the day’s programme and was quick to shush any noisy ‘students’ or teachers’, warning them that they had better count their lucky stars that i didn’t make them all sit cross-legged on the floor as we used to normally have to do when we were school-going kids!!!

After explaining the day’s activities to all, goody bags were given out. Unlike our usual goody bags which contain scrap supplies, this was no ordinary goody bag and everyone received clear file envelopes containing name tags, student record sheets, spelling quiz sheets, retro pencils, retro erasers, and the small blue 555 notebooks we used to write our time-table and homework instructions in when we were in primary school in the 70s or 80s. Lunch bags containing Kaka, jelly and biscuits were also handed out for good measure.

With that out of the way, cropping time began in earnest for most, while some cheeky ones seemed to forever be asking for loo breaks, an excuse i reckon, to sneak off to do some shopping in the ‘school bookshop’ as they called it, despite my promises of excursions which would take them outside of the classrooms for a bit of shopping for supplies fun!!! What a sneaky bunch!!!

Oh! How i had to wave my cane in the air and holler for some of them to settle down as i yelled out instructions for the next task or shopping special!!!Razzberry
Anyhow, after the first 10-minute shopping special, (yes, for some shopping specials, ‘students’ and ‘teachers’ had only 10 minutes to decide whether they wanted the special), i sprang them a pop quiz. With no time to study for it, everyone had to answer scrapbook-related questions. Scores mattered as marks were recorded and they contributed to individual final scores which would be made up of scores from other tasks which had to be completed, in addition to scores they garnered depending on the number of shopping specials they took up! Person with the highest score would win the Best Student Award and the prize was $100 worth of Made With Love cash vouchers!!!

And how some agonised over the test, whilst others seemed to breeze through it. Some finished quickly and went back to scrapping but swiftly whipped out the test sheets again obediently when i sternly warned them that they had better check their answers. Loud warnings of ‘no talking’ plus hints that i could see eyeballs rolling around all over the place fell on deaf ears!!!

When time was up, everyone exchanged test sheets for peer-marking as i went through the answers, at times offering a little bit more trivia so that all crop attendees would come away feeling more ‘educated’. Things like ‘Did you know that the brand S.E.I. stands for Sew Easy Industries cos they used to be a sewing products manufacturer before they got into the whole scrapping supplies business. And did you know that Lisa Bearnson, founder of Creating Keepsakes magazine is such a powerful figure in the scrapbooking world that she’s appeared not only on QVC but on the Martha Stewart Show and the Oprah Winfrey Show!!! We are after all, having a Back To School theme all month long!!! Heheheh!!!

By the way, if you’d like to brush up your knowledge of scrapbooking, please feel free to download the test from our online forum for a bit of fun and see how you would have fared by clicking here.

Anyway, back to the crop party … … when it came to group challenges, everyone was split into 4 teams of 5 – the red, blue, yellow and green teams. So one by one, they stuck their hands into a bag to pull out red, blue, yellow or green stickers. Whatever color they got was the team they were to belong to.This was to give everyone a chance to make new friends!!!

Once everyone settled into their respective groups, it was time for the first group challenge of the day – Bubble Blowing. By this time, Vice-Principal Mrs Anne-Marie Ng/Mdm Teo (as i affectionately called her to her extreme dislike), had arrived and promptly bellowed out instructions to the various teams. The team to blow up the biggest bubble in under 3 minutes would win for each of themselves extra special discount coupons for any scrap supply they fancied.

And oh how they blowed and blowed …. or is it blew and blew … oh whatever, if you remember the sticky smelly gel like thingey that came out of tubes which we blew up with tiny straws when we were kids…. well that’s what each team had -  a whole 2 tubes worth!

The bubble blowing challenge soon came to be some form of an abstract art sculpture competition as each team declared that they had created one object or another with their bubble blowing attempts. One team declared that they had miraculously blown up a baby-shaped bubble whilst another was confident they had a giant jackfruit in their hands and yet another blew up something that escaped from planet Mars in my opinion.

Anyway baby bubble sculpture or not, the team with the biggest bubble would win and it was this group with the giant jackfruit shaped bubble which eventually took the prize!!!

While the winning team mulled over what to buy with their coupons, the rest went back to more scrapping! Snacks were served and more shopping specials were announced.

By the way, this was the only snack we got a shot of, everyone gobbled down the food real quick, no one had the time to take any shots of the other school canteen snacks that Chenta made for us! Guess all the activity made everyone hungry!!!Laughing Out Loud

Anyway, all too soon, the next group challenge was underway, this time, each team had to go on a Treasure Hunt. They were given clues in the form of photographs. Abstract shots of products or things situated in the store were handed out such as these.

Can you figure them out?

And teams had to work together in locating one clue after the other. Once all photo clues had been collected, they returned to the classrooms and were handed a puzzle of letters of the alphabet which they had to decipher to spell out scrap-related words like embossable, handwrites, rectangles and scalloping. Fastest team wins the prize of coupons which entitled them to yet more specials discounts!!!

And they were relentless, as evidenced in the above pic. Poor mommy and baby cornered in the tools section with no hope of getting out …. oblivious to it all of course was this team who continued to decipher their photo clues!!!

But in the end, it was this team which won!!!

After another shopping special, the teams were given a pop spelling quiz. It was a list of 20 scrapbook related or Made With Love related words. Not too badly done, most got at least 95% of it correct with a handful who even received full marks.

If you’re curious, these were the words they had to spell … …

All too soon, it was time for student record sheets to be filled in and scores tallied. VP Teo and i did a quick check of test sheets careful to write encouraging notes in red ink like “Well Done! Neat Work! Keep it up!!” with hand-drawn stars for those who did well, all in a bid to keep the crop experience as authentic as possible. It was real cute as some ‘students’ hovered around us in eager anticipation as we verified the scores.

With all scores tallied, the person who won the Best Student Award with the highest score attained for all challenges partipated in, all specials enjoyed and all tests taken went to … … Angeline a.k.a. Minty on our online forum!!! She received a Best Student certificate and $100 worth of Made With Love vouchers!!!

Congratulations once again Angeline!!!

Voting slips were also handed out for all ‘students’ and ‘teachers’ to vote for 3 people who they thought best epitomised 3 categories VP Teo and i decided to focus on. And these were the winners after VP Teo tallied all the votes … …

‘Student Netball Player’ Aida Haron won the Most Stylish Award and $20 worth of Made With Love cash vouchers. She sewed her entire costume herself, complete with wrap-around pleated green plaid skirt and matching tee with plaid circle and American Crafts alpha stickers which spelled the words Netball … ok … Net ba … it was after all, the end of the day already!!!Razzberry

A mock-caning session going on here …. to serve as a deterrent to other crop attendees who were contemplating on being unruly….

And ‘junior college student’ Felicia won not just one but two awards for being ‘The Most In-Character’ and ‘The Most Authentically Dressed’. She won for herself a total of $40 worth of Made With Love cash vouchers. Bet you would never have guessed that this girlish scrapper is already in her mid-twenties!!! She even brought her school choir CD for a bit of choral music to add to the mood of the party!!! And went about collecting and distributing marked test sheets to fellow ‘students’. What a teacher’s pet!!! Truly a well-deserved win!!!Laughing Out Loud

Well, what a day it was and VP Teo and i truly hope you all had a good time. Thank goodness no one had to be really caned or put in a corner. If we had to write comments in their report cards, it would have probably read something like this, ‘A cheerful, helpful and rather well-behaved bunch of girls. Tend to be talkative at times but never fail to show great enthusiasm towards tasks set for them. All have potential to go far!’

Hahaha!!! And till the next crop, keep on lovin’ and keep up the scrappin’!!!

Plenty of love,
Principal Mrs Liow and Vice-Principal Mdm Teo - Made With Love School of Mad Scrappers

P.S.
By the way, if you’ve been having problems getting a space in our crop parties, please do not lose hope as we are working on a number of ideas that would hopefully ensure that as many people get to experience a Made With Love crop party as far as possible. What turned out to be just an excuse to have fun has really taken on a life of its own. Please be patient with us as we think up ways to circumvent the problem of limited capacity. We promise!!! Cross our hearts!!!Wink
