Do They Know It’s Christmas?
I love that song, I love this time of year… everything seems different, even the air.. :) And we’ve got our very own DT member, Merdrey to help us get even more Christmassy with her wonderful snowflake creation. She’s even included simple instructions so you can try this out at home!! :) This is the very FIRST in the series of DT inspirations… we’ll have our DT ‘talk’ or share ideas, trends or anything that has caught their fancy - right here on our MWL blog!!! YAY!
Cool… without further ado, let’s give it up for Merdrey!!! *clapping* :) (heehee… sounds like a talksho :) )
Hello!! *waves*
When I was first asked to do a feature for the website, i spent a few days cracking my brain for something to talk about! Not being a real technique person, I decided that I should share a little project instead. Since the Christmas season is drawing near, I wanted to create something Christmasy, something new and unique…and the idea of creating a snowflake out of patterned paper just popped into my brain!!! (P.S. I love snowflakes!)

So, get your papers and tools ready and let me show you how to create this 4” x 4” dimensional snowflake for your Christmas tree, presents or even as an embellishment on your layout!
The items you need…

First, we need to prepare 8 sheets of 4” by 2” sheets.

Next, we need to roll up the patterned paper. I found it a little difficult to roll them up due to the thickness of the paper, hence I made use of a pen to get the paper curled up slightly before rolling them tightly with my hands.

Use tape glue to tape up the ends of the rolls. Continue with the rest of the pp and you should end up with 8 ‘sticks’! They look like candies don’t they!!

Take one ‘stick’ and punch a hole in the middle with the strong, silent and easy-to-use crop-a-dile and two more holes on either side. Do the same for two other ‘sticks’. That will be the main structure of the snowflake!

We now prepare the other parts of the snowflake by cutting 3 ‘sticks’ into halves and punching a hole in the middle with the crop-a-dile. Next, cut the remaining 2 ‘sticks’ into thirds and similarly, punch a hole in the middle. You now have 3 long sticks with five holes, 6 medium length sticks and 8 short sticks, both with one hole in the centre (Note: you will only need 6 short sticks)

And now it is the part I LUVVRREEEEEEE - assembling time with brads!!!!!!! I will let the pictures do the talking!

And finally…we have the finished product!! Add glitter, ribbons and anything else to decorate your snowflake and make it your very own!!

Wooohoooo!!! Thanks Merdrey for that inspiring make-and-take… now I feel like making these for my Christmas tree. :) We hope you’ve been inspired as well… and do keep your eyes peeled to our blog.. we’ll have Leena and Erlia share their ideas with us soon. :)
Till next time…
luv,
